இத்திருக்கோயில் இருவாலுக ஈசர் என்றும் இருவாலுக ஈசர்க்கினியாள் என்றும் சிவத்தலமாக இருந்த போதிலும் திரு இலஞ்சி குமாரர் வள்ளி தெய்வானையுடன் எழுந்தருளி பக்தர்களுக்குஅருள்பாலிக்கிறார்.அம்மை அப்பருடன் எழுந்தருளி உள்ளதால் இங்கு திருமணம் செய்வது விசேஷம். ஆகவே இங்கு அதிக அளவில் திருமணம் நடப்பது இத்திருக்கோயிலின் தனிச்சிறப்பு ஆகும். இலஞ்சி என்ற சொல்லுக்கு மகிழம் என்ற பொருள் உண்டு.மேலும், முருகப்பெருமான் ரிஷிகளின் வேண்டுகோளின் படி வரத்தை இன்றும் கொடுத்தருள்கிறார்.இத்தலத்து திருவிலஞ்சிக்குமாரர் வரதராஜப் பெருமான் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.
